SynbiTECH 2019 is an international forum for experts engaged in synthetic biology investment, policy making, science and research. The event focused on key opportunities to build a multibillion-dollar synthetic biology industry and grow the bio-economy.

Synthetic biology is fundamental to developing an innovative bio-based economy that can significantly enhance environmental sustainability, boost industrial and agricultural productivity, and lead to improved health outcomes. SynbiTECH is an annual event that will address the key challenges and opportunities to harness synthetic biology to provide sustainable solutions to some of the world’s biggest challenges.

This year the event took place on 24th-25th June at the iconic QEII Centre, situated in the heart of London directly opposite Westminster Abbey. Speakers at the event included Lord David Willetts, Lionel Clarke from the UK Synthetic Biology Leadership Council, and Steve Bagshaw from Fujifilm Diosynth Biotechnology.
The Programme and full list of speakers can be viewed here.

The BBSRC NIBB, CCnet – Carbon ReCycling, hosted an exhibition stand at the event to inform delegates about the new network and how to join. The exhibition stand also included a bubbling, colour changing bioreactor and our recently commissioned gas fermentation animation both were great conversation starters! View the animation here.
